Cardiovascular surgery officially opened with the hospital in 1999 and has now developed into a comprehensive discipline integrating medical treatment, teaching, and scientific research. The discipline is a key discipline of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital and a B-class discipline in the construction of high-level hospitals in Guangdong Province. The department has been nominated for the annual reputation ranking of cardiovascular surgery hospitals in South China for two consecutive years in 2018 and 2019, and has been ranked first in the cardiovascular surgery major in the 2018 Shenzhen Medical and Health Institution Technology Influence Ranking. The department has an annual surgical volume of over 600 cases, ranking first in Shenzhen General Hospital in terms of surgical volume.
The department has 37 regular beds and 6 ICU beds, equipped with large-scale rescue equipment such as ECMO, IABP, CRRT, and ventilators. The department staff includes two teams: clinical and research teams. The clinical team consists of 11 clinical physicians, including 3 with senior professional titles, 3 with deputy senior professional titles, 5 with intermediate professional titles, and 4 with doctoral degrees; The nursing team has 47 senior and intermediate professional titles. There are 6 research teams in the department, 1 full-time research PI, and 2 postdoctoral researchers in the station.
The department specializes in and develops in major vascular surgery and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. The department performs over 200 major vascular surgeries annually, creating the fourth successful case of infants born after deep hypothermic circulatory arrest in pregnant women with aortic dissection (the fourth case in the country), and also setting the record for the largest successful surgery for type A aortic dissection patients in the country (weighing 161kg). The department took the lead in conducting minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery in Shenzhen, successfully performing TAVR surgery on a 93 year old elderly patient; We were the first to carry out minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery in Shenzhen and passed the national level evaluation for new technologies at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital in 2020. The quality and quantity of structural heart disease interventional closure surgery and aortic endovascular repair surgery in the department are leading in Shenzhen.
